From the company board of Maxima S.A.
Being in Haiti as Christian individuals, it has become a personal challenge
to assist people to improve their family’s situation, build stronger
communities, and help children to prepare for a better future. This way, over
the past 25 years, we have served on the board of organizations, orphanages,
schools and medical projects that support these values.
Being at Maxima S.A. as board members and directors, we set these same goals for
our workers. Maxima’s primary goal is to employ men whom we encourage to be good
heads of their households, give their kids a good education and move their
family up the economical ladder. We see Maxima as a tool in a bigger project of
self-help for our employees. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for the day.
Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” (Chinese Proverb).
Our goal is to take these programs further than Maxima into the greater Haitian
communities, but so far we can rely only on the profit we generate from our
sales, for financial support. Having Haiti as our sales territory in this
present economy, there is only so much we can accomplish on this limited budget.
As the Haitian economy weakens, people’s needs grow and become more urgent. We
need to reach out and help people to assure a better life and job security
before they too will fall below the poverty line because they were never given
the tools for self support. We need partners to support our goals, to support
the Haitian people.
Friends and families have offered help. Organizations stand behind the values we
communicate and are encouraging us to move forward. Financial institutions have
offered assistance if we would have a legal non-profit status. So at Maxima we
have decided to invest our resources and create a professional institution with
clearly defined goals built on above mentioned values. We have founded:
